In the beginning… there was a law office

Before the racks were filled and the doors were opened, Born Again Consignment Parlor was an idea owner Summer Amin had been carrying with her for years.

Amin had dreamed of eventually opening her own consignment shop since early in her corporate career, occasionally finding herself looking at commercial spaces around the neighborhood, imagining what might become of them.

Then, in 2023, she came across the space that would eventually become her secondhand haven.

“As soon as I saw it,” Amin recalls, “I thought, ‘why wait until retirement when I can just do it now?’”

And so, she did.

The space had previously been home to a spacious law office. Once vacant, it became a project of its own. Renovations began in August 2023 and the front room officially opened for business in October.

Additional rooms were renovated and opened gradually over time, revealing the shape of the store little by little. The stained glass was the lawyer’s doing; the glamorous chandeliers were Amin’s addition. By the time the renovations were finished, the old law office had taken on an entirely new character.

And, fittingly, Born Again is not finished reinventing itself.

Soon, the upstairs loft will become a speakeasy, bringing a new chapter — and perhaps a little more spirit — to the parlor.
